Since the O&D traffic between the two is in the teens, you will never, ever see this route happen. I use Boise since there is not a non stop flight to there. They look at statistics that say how many people per day fly. When airlines look at new routes to add, they look at O&D traffic. I see from the other comments that they correlate the size of San Antonio with the airport. It just shows you that San Antonio is NOT READY for a bigger airport with more destinations. Even though these aircrafts only seat about 40 people, it failed miserably and those flights were cut within 6 months. Flights were added to New Orleans, OKC, Albuquerque and other border state cities. In 2006, United tried expanding the San Antonio airport by adding Non-Stop flights over 7 new cities using small ERJ-135 aircraft.Austin also now has nonstop flights to London, so I think we will see Austin's numbers go even higher, while seeing San Antonio's going low. Austin has Frontier, Allegiant, Virgin America and JetBlue. San Antonio's only LCC (Low Cost Carrier) is Southwest. Fares are usually cheaper there, since they have 3-4 more Low Cost Carriers than San Antonio does. I, however, theorize that some San Antonians ditch the San Antonio Airport to go to Austin's airport. Traffic coming in and out of San Antonio has fallen over the past year! Less people are using the airport. Also, A12 only gets used for about an hour a day when Alaska Airlines comes in from Seattle. Taking a look at the Airport's Gate Map, Gates A16 and A17 are vacant and not being used.
